Janet Emmanuel

Janet is the Communities Manager at London CLT, where she plays a key role in strengthening community and political support for Community Land Trust (CLT) and Community-Led Housing (CLH) initiatives. Her responsibilities include:
• Building and sustaining community backing for current and future CLT projects
• Cultivating support among local councillors for CLT and CLH homes more broadly
• Collaborating with community organisations, including Citizens UK, to mobilise wider grassroots engagement
• Supporting the advancement of both existing and prospective CLT sites
• Working with London CLT to review and refine strategies related to community engagement, resident involvement, and membership
Janet brings over 19 years of experience in education, having previously served as an Assistant Headteacher at a diverse secondary school in South London. In addition to her background in education, she has been a community organiser with Citizens UK for more than 17 years.
A committed advocate for genuinely affordable housing, Janet played a key role in the successful development of Citizens House in Sydenham—London CLT’s first direct development.
Currently, Janet is leading efforts at St William of York Church to promote positive mental health through the creation of a Be Well Hub. This initiative is part of South London Listens, a partnership between Citizens UK and the Maudsley Trust.
